Kwidza Mukadzi

Make room for the woman everyone relies on.

Menopause can arrive in the middle of work, family life, care and community responsibility. Kwidza Mukadzi is a culturally grounded learning space for women and the organisations around them to talk honestly, make sense of information and consider practical next steps.

The Kwidza Mukadzi Founding Manifesto

Menopause is a transition. A woman’s relevance is not.

Leading the conversation on menopause, culture, agency and leadership for African women and the diaspora.

For generations, conversations about women’s lives have centred on what women are expected to give: their time, their care, their strength, their ability to hold families, workplaces and communities together.

But what happens when the woman herself needs support? And who makes space for her voice?

Menopause is a natural life transition, but it is not experienced in the same way by every woman. Culture, access to information, personal circumstances, disability, neurodivergence and available support all shape how women move through midlife.

We believe the conversation needs to be broader. That is why we are developing Kwidza Mukadzi.

Part of Kwidza Collective, Kwidza Mukadzi is an African-centred women’s wellbeing and leadership initiative. We are beginning with Zimbabwe and Southern Africa, and we welcome conversations with African women across the continent and the diaspora.

Our first focus is menopause and midlife wellbeing. We are developing culturally responsive educational opportunities that recognise women’s lived experiences and support informed choices. Our ambition reaches beyond a single life transition: women deserve reliable knowledge, the freedom to make decisions about their own lives, and opportunities to shape their futures.

The CLAW Framework

Culture.

Beliefs, expectations and identities influence how women understand menopause, ageing, work, family and leadership. We make room for respectful conversation without assuming that every African woman shares the same experience.

Leadership.

Leadership takes many forms: in workplaces, families, communities and women’s own lives. Midlife is not the end of ambition or contribution. Choosing rest, change or a different direction deserves the same respect.

Autonomy.

Women should be supported to understand their options, speak up for their needs and act on decisions that reflect their own values. Autonomy is more than being offered a choice. It also means recognising the barriers that can get in the way.

Wellbeing.

Women deserve understandable, evidence-informed information, and the chance to ask questions, explore options and tell reliable health information apart from misinformation, stigma and silence.

Neuroinclusion is part of the conversation

For some women, menopause overlaps with autism, ADHD, sensory differences, disability and other access needs. We believe these experiences belong in the wider conversation about women’s wellbeing.

We are working towards learning materials and conversations that make room for different communication styles and learning preferences. To do that properly, we intend to involve neurodivergent women and disability advocates in how we design them.

Bigger than one woman

A woman’s wellbeing matters in its own right. It also sits within families, workplaces and communities. We are interested in what happens when different generations understand one another and share knowledge, always by choice.

Women should not have to carry everyone else’s wellbeing alone. Responsibility for supportive communities should be shared.

Where we begin

We are starting with menopause because women deserve to explore this transition through conversations that respect their culture, experiences and choices. As our work develops, we will explore education, coaching, workplace learning and leadership opportunities.

Our first step is a listening session on 15 November 2026.

Our invitation

We invite African women, including women in the diaspora, to join the conversation. We also welcome educators, employers, healthcare professionals, community leaders and potential collaborators.

We do not believe one organisation can speak for every woman. But we believe there is value in creating space for more women to be heard.

Menopause is a transition. A woman’s relevance is not.

And every woman deserves the opportunity to define what comes next.
